Man arrested in connection to fatal Mission Viejo shooting

MISSION VIEJO (CNS) - Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies Saturday announced the arrest of a man alleged of a fatal shooting in Mission Viejo.

Deputies from the department's Mission Viejo Station responded to a report of a shooting in an apartment on La Glorietta at 7:30 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, deputies found a man inside the apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the sheriff's department reported.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said sheriff's officials. He was identified as 39-year-old Miguel Joaquin Mata of Mission Viejo.

Deputies established a perimeter around the crime scene and located 55- year-old Sean Jeffery Williams, who lived in an apartment near the victim, sheriff's officials said.

On the basis of interviews and evidence collected at the scene, Williams was placed under arrest and booked into the Orange County Jail for suspicion of homicide, according to the department. It was not yet known what led to the shooting.
