Man arrested in deadly Long Beach shooting

A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder for allegedly shooting another man in Long Beach, police announced Monday.

The victim, identified as Jesse Stiles, 43, of Long Beach, was shot around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Officers responding to a shooting call in the area of 17th Street and Santa Fe Avenue located Stiles suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

"Through their investigation, homicide detectives identified the suspect as Orlando Joel Villarreal, a 41-year-old resident of Long Beach," according to a police statement. "Detectives located and arrested Villarreal on (Sunday) in the city of Carson. Villarreal was booked for murder, and his bail was set at $2 million."

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
