Man arrested in connection to fatal shooting in Huntington Beach

A man on probation has been arrested in connection with a shooting death in Huntington Beach over the weekend, police announced Monday.

Shots fired were reported about 2:25 p.m. Sunday in the area of Ash Lane and Mandrell Drive, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

"Responding officers located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds," according to department spokesman Corbin Carson. "He was transported to a local trauma center, where he later succumbed to his injuries."

The man's identity was withheld pending family notifications.

Detectives from the HBPD Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Bureau assumed the investigation, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff's Department Coroner Division and Crime Lab.

Investigators identified Luis Angel Mireles, 28, of Santa Ana, as a person of interest, and caught up with him around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Carson said,.

"Based on interviews and evidence collected at the scene, Mireles was arrested and booked at the Huntington Beach City Jail (on suspicion of murder and a probation violation)," Carson said.

It was not clear why Mireles was on probation.
