LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A homeless man suspected of fatally stabbing a 24-year-old UCLA grad student inside a Hancock Park furniture store has been charged with murder.

Shawn Laval Smith, 31, is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on the charge, which stems from the Jan. 13 killing of Brianna Kupfer inside the Croft House furniture store on N La Brea
Avenue.

The 24-year-old was working alone in the boutique furniture store when police say Smith walked in, fatally stabbing her sometime after entering the store.

The charge against Smith, who investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department have said is homeless, comes just days after a $250,000 reward was announced for information leading to the arrest of Kupfer's killer.

Smith was arrested Wednesday in Pasadena, near Fair Oaks and Colorado Boulevards, police said.
