The man charged with sexually assaulting and brutalizing two women in the Venice Canals area was back in court Tuesday to answer to the amended complaint against him.

As KNX News' Karen Adams reports, the hearing was to tack on murder charges against Anthony Francisco Jones, 29, following the death of one of his alleged victims, 53-year-old Sarah Alden, who had been in a coma since the attack but was taken off life support and died last month.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held for Alden on Thursday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. near the walk bridge on Sherman Canal.

Jones is accused of viciously attacking Alden and another victim, Mary Klein, 54, on the night of April 6 as they walked along the canals of Venice.

Officials say Jones grabbed Klein from behind and beat her so severely that her jaw had to be wide shut.

His next court date is set for September 5.
