A motorcycle rider was killed early Wednesday after crashing into a parked car in Long Beach and investigators say speed may have been a factor.

Officers were sent at 12:28 a.m. Wednesday to Clark Avenue, just north of Conant Street near Rosie the Riveter Park, to investigate a report of a motorcycle rider down, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

They found the rider down in the northbound lanes of Clark Avenue.

Firefighters pronounced the biker, identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as 40-year-old Douglas Dague Jr., dead at the scene.

According to preliminary findings, the rider was atop a 2009 Kymco Venox, headed north on Clark toward Carson Street when the bike struck a 2016 Dodge Dart parked on the east curb.

Unlike a sport bike, that model of motorcycle is considered a "light cruiser," according to the manufacturer.

"Speed is being investigated as a potential factor in this collision," according to an LBPD statement, which said intoxication and distracted riding have been ruled out.

Video from the location showed the crumpled motorcycle against the damaged rear of the light-colored car.

Police closed the streets leading to the crash scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the fatal crash was urged to contact Detective Efrain Pineda of the LBPD's Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570- 7355.
