Deputies from the sheriff's Carson Station responded around 3:20 p.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of West Sepulveda Boulevard, just east of Normandie Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene," sheriff's officials said. "A vehicle involved in the shooting was detained and a suspect was arrested."

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the fatally wounded man as Victor Alvarez, 39, of Carson.

The events leading up to the shooting remain unclear, and the suspect's name was not immediately released.

Authorities urged anyone with information to call the sheriff's department's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
