The shooting occurred around midnight in an accessory dwelling unit adjacent to a home near Patton Road and Fontana Street.

ABC7 reported from the scene that a 33-year-old San Pedro man was killed in the doorway of the structure, which was apparently being rented by a family with children. The victim was visiting relatives at the home when the shooting occurred, the station reported.

"I was watching TV in my bedroom, and what I heard was four (shots), it might be three, but I think it was four," neighbor Reina Burks told Channel 7 at the scene. "... So I came to the door and of course I didn't open the door. Then at 1 o'clock, the police came and asked me some questions about cameras and stuff. But I didn't hear nobody running, you know, like a car just leaving fast. Nothing like that happened."

There was no immediate word on a suspect or possible motive for the shooting.
