According to preliminary findings, the bicycle rider was headed west on Fountain when he was struck by the car, traveling in the same direction.

The BMW, which is suspected to have a smashed windshield on the passenger side as a result of the crash, did not stop.

The bicyclist, whose age was not disclosed, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was not immediately known if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the fatality.

Anyone with information about the collision was urged to call traffic investigators at the sheriff's West Hollywood station at 310-855-8850.
