LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A man accused of fatally striking a street vendor with an allegedly stolen Amazon delivery truck in South Los Angeles has been charged, police disclosed Wednesday.

Cristian Ramos Sanchez, 37, has been charged with felony counts of vehicular manslaughter, grand theft auto, and hit-and-run, along with one misdemeanor count of hit-and-run, L.A. police said.

The incident occurred on Feb. 17 at around 2 p.m. when Sanchez allegedly stole the truck while an Amazon driver was making a delivery in the 4100 block of Woodlawn Avenue. Around 10 minutes later, Sanchez reportedly lost control of the truck and collided into a building at the corner of Main Street and 47th Place.

Two pedestrians struck by the truck suffered minor injuries, but a third was "immediately killed" by the impact, police said.

The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Jose Rangel, who worked as a street vendor.

Sanchez exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, police said. But he was followed by witnesses who called police and alerted them to his location. The suspect was found and taken into custody in the area of 51st Street and Broadway.

Sanchez will face arraignment on Wednesday. Prosecutors are asking bail be set at $235,000.
