A brush fire erupted in Granada Hills Friday morning, prompting evacuations as flames threatened homes.

The fire was first reported around 10:25 a.m. on West Sesnon Boulevard, initially estimated at 2-3 acres. Firefighters quickly responded, deploying crews on the ground and in the air.
Mandatory evacuations were issued shortly after 11 a.m. for residents within the following boundaries:
East: Balboa Boulevard
West: Tampa Avenue
South: Sesnon Boulevard
North: Sunshine Canyon Road
Evacuation warnings were issued for the area between Tampa Avenue and Balboa Boulevard, as well as between Rinaldi and Sesnon.
Just after 11:40 AM, reports from the scene suggested fire crews were making great progress, allowing officials to downgrade the evacuation order to an evacuation warning and lift the evacuation warning.
As of 12:00 PM the fire was estimated at 31 acre, and was revised to just under 19 acres with forward progress stopped later in the hour.
