Mayor Karen Bass has been making the rounds with the newly chosen Los Angeles Police Department chief, including a stop at the iconic Pink’s Hot Dogs.
Former L.A. County Sheriff Jim McDonnell was tapped Friday morning to become the next LAPD chief. He spoke about his plans for boosting morale at the department.
“I’ll get out there. I’ll be everywhere,” he said. “I'll talk to everyone I can and try and engage, and I take notes as I talk as to what they raise, those issues, concerns. Start addressing the issues that are most important to our internal audience and we start seeing a turnaround in how they see themselves.”
Bass also spoke about her plans to recruit more officers to the ever-dwindling police force.
“We need to expedite the hiring process, and there is very specific things we can do to speed the process up, maintaining the same quality and the same standards but addressing some of the bureaucracy that elongates the process,” she said.
