Two staffers who work for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass were hospitalized Thursday after encountering a suspicious package in the mail.
The package contained unusual pictures and a substance of concern, LAFD confirmed to KNX News’ Craig Fiegener.
LAFD spokesperson Erik Scott said the employees did open the package.
"The two workers were then evaluated quickly by firefighter paramedics and fortunately, they did not have any signs or symptoms of illness, but they were transported to the hospital as a precaution," he said.
He added that the mail room and a couple of businesses nearby were evacuated during the investigation. The fire department was there until 10 p.m.
Mayor Bass has not issued a statement at the time of this publication.
