Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Tuesday that she intends to hire several disaster recovery consultants to help rebuild the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades.
Because of the emergency declaration connected to the Palisades Fire, Bass has the authority to make deals with consultants without the typical rules requiring competitive bidding for the contracts.
Bass said she hopes to work with Hagerty Consulting, a disaster recovery firm that has worked extensively with the state Office of Emergency Services. The mayor was unable to estimate how much the consultants would cost, but told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener she expects to have an answer “in about a week or so.”

Last week, it was revealed that businessman Steve Soboroff would earn $500,000 for a 3-month stint as Chief Recovery Officer. After significant criticism, Bass backtracked and asked Soboroff to offer his services for free.
