LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s message to Angelenos during his Tuesday presser was simple: “Get protected, get tested, and stay vigilant.”

“Let me say very clearly, we’re at a very different point now than we were a year ago,” he said. “But some of the stats that are coming forward are pretty frightening. Omicron is doubling every 1.5 to every three days and we’ve seen a case load here in L.A. County go from about a thousand cases just a few weeks ago to 3,000 cases a day just now.”

During the press conference, Mayor Garcetti told reporters he doesn’t foresee a lockdown; however, he has pushed back relaxing COVID-19 rules for a month or two.

Garcetti also stressed the importance of residents getting their vaccines and booster shots.

“Right now we have 84 percent of our 12 years old and older at least having one shot in L.A.
County,” he said. “That’s an impressive number. And one shot almost inevitably leads to two,  that means we’re getting close with 12 years old and older to nearly 85 percent of our population.”

He added that 78 percent of five year olds and older have at least one vaccination, including Garcetti’s daughter who he said is fully vaccinated.

Garcetti also encouraged people get tested as frequently and even consider doubling up on masks, or upgrading masks.

“This is a crucial moment for us all,” he said. “And I know how exhausted you are, I know how exhausted I am. But this is a moment to take all the wisdom and knowledge that we have and do something about that.”
