It looks like Southern California is in for a particularly dry summer.
KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke to Mark Thibodeau, a meteorologist with the Weather Channel, about the summer forecast, which projects July-October to be the driest stretch.
“We're quickly getting into a La Niña, which usually means drier than average conditions over the southwest and the western United States,” he said.
The green hills that this winter’s rain brought to Southern California are expected to dry out from the hot weather, which can pose a fire risk. Thibodeau recommended that people trim back any brush on their property.

“Have that fire safety plan in place just in case, especially as we get later into the summer,” he said. “No need to panic.”
It’s a good idea to be prepared. However, Thibodeau doesn’t expect this year to be a record-breaking fire season.
