Metro train derailed in East L.A., one hurt

One person was injured after a Metro E Line train and a car crashed in East Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the derailment was reported near Third St. and Rowan Ave. around 9:20 a.m..


“The train was traveling westbound on Third Street and the vehicle also was traveling westbound almost at the same speed,” Metro spokesperson Jose Ubaldo told KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “When [the train] reached the intersection to make a left turn, the car suddenly made a left turn.”

Valdez reported that the E Line train had some minor damages to the front and the first cart was off the track.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Ubaldo. One passenger was treated on the scene and released.

In a post on X, Metro Los Angeles announced that there was no train service between Maravilla and Indiana Station due to a “train-auto incident.” Train service resumed just before 12:40 p.m.

The area of Third Street closed around 10:45 a.m. but has since reopened.
