Common Space Brewery in Hawthorne was packed with fans watching the World Cup’s first game: Mexico vs. South Africa.
People were shoulder to shoulder with green jerseys and long lines for drinks, staying all the way through to see Mexico win 2-0.
KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian spoke to fans about what brought them to Common Space Brewery.
“I live right here in Hawthorne, like a couple of blocks from here, but I called out sick just to be here,” said one patron. “It's a one-time lifetime experience.”
Many fans rearranged work schedules, took time off, and made plans with family just to watch together.
Another fan shared this experience with her cousin and nieces.
“It's just great like having the whole community come together,” she said. “It just feels really good to have the luck to grow up in a community that is so happy to embrace their culture and out here proud to be Mexican.”
The celebrations for Mexico continued well after the game ended in Hawthorne.
