MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (WWJ) — With all the hype and social media love being shown to longtime Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, you might think the Lions are gearing up for their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

But alas, that’s not the case.

Stafford will lead his Los Angeles Rams — NOT the Lions — into battle with the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, with the Lombardi Trophy on the line, the culmination of a very successful season in his first year away from Detroit.

But plenty of Lions fans are still excited for the guy. After all, he put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into his 12-year tenure in Detroit, and this is about as close as the franchise has come to sniffing the promised land.

And one Michigan retail store is capitalizing on the hype.

C&O Sportswear in Mt. Pleasant is selling “Detroit Rams” shirts ahead of the Super Bowl, complete with Stafford’s No. 9.

Shirts are available on the C&O website, with T-shirts for as little as $13.99. Long-sleeve T-shirts, crewnecks and hooded sweatshirts are also available.

While many Lions fans are just excited to see Stafford get his shot at NFL glory, some are peeved by other people’s joy over his success.

The comments section on C&O Sportswear’s Facebook post was quite polarized, with some showing their disdain at the excitement for a longtime favorite in Detroit.

One angry commenter wrote “More Lions Loser gear. Keep up the loser mentality. HE DOES NOT PLAY HERE ANYMORE!?!?”

Another wrote “What loser would buy this? Have some self respect jesus,” to which someone replied “I get the reason behind it. (X lions player). But why jinx the rams and Stafford, by wearing anything resembling the lions. LMAO”

It’s clear this is a polarizing topic. Which side are you on?
