Millions expected to travel for the Fourth of July holiday

Millions of Southern California residents are expected to travel this Fourth of July holiday, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Travel experts said that 5.4 million SoCal residents are expected to travel this year, a 5.2% increase from last year. Of those traveling, 4.3 million will be driving to their destination while 738,000 will be flying.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects Friday, June 28 to be the peak travel day with the agency expecting to screen over 3 million people. The agency also expects to screen more than 32 million people through July 8.

One traveler at LAX told KNX News’ Jon Baird that as of early Friday morning, traffic was “great.”

“So travel is what it is,” he said. “It's nice right now though.”

Popular domestic destinations for SoCal travelers are San Diego, Las Vegas, the Central Coast, national parks, Oahu, Orlando, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Portland, according to AAA.
