MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KNX) – Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna shared new details in Saturday night’s mass shooting at a Monterey Park dance studio.
Luna said that during a search warrant at the Hemet residence of the suspect, Huu Can Tran, investigators recovered a .308-caliber rifle, hundreds of rounds of .308-caliber and 9mm ammunition, as well as items that lead deputies “to believe the suspect was manufacturing homemade firearm suppressors.”
Inside the Star Ballet Dance Studio where the shooting took place, investigators found 42 shell casings and a large capacity magazine.
Luna also revealed that Tran was arrested in 1990 for unlawful possession of firearms.
During the presser, two additional victims were identified as Xiujuan Yu, 57, and Alvero Valentino, 68. The sheriff also noted one of the victims was shot outside the dance studio and was found inside a car. Luna said that person was likely shot before the suspect went into the studio and opened fire again
Officials said a motive is still unclear.
