A mother and child suspected of being kidnapped in Lancaster were found safe by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, the LASD Major Crimes Bureau said.

Sabrina Sanchez, 31, and 2-month-old Itzel Sanchez were last seen at about noon Sunday with 25-year-old Efrain Sanchez, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Efrain Sanchez had made recent threats to murder his wife and child, the LASD said in a press release.

"It is believed the victims left with the suspect out of duress and fear for their safety, after he previously committed a sexual assault upon a family member," the department added.

Sanchez is still at large, and he is believed to be armed with a handgun. His car, a Silver 2007 Buick Lucerne with Colorado license plate AUI-X94, also hasn't been recovered.
