An emergency motion to save Marilyn Monroe’s Brentwood home from being demolished passed unanimously on Friday.
The motion will put the owner’s demolition permit on hold.

The home is located at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive. Monroe purchased it in the early 1960's and lived in it until her death in 1962, according to the L.A.
Times.
“Despite having lived there for only a brief time before her tragic and untimely death, she deeply valued this home,” Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park said. “It was her own. And to her and to us, this home is more than just a brick-and-mortar building, it is a symbol of her journey and our identity as Angelinos.”
She added that the home must be “preserved as a crucial piece of Hollywood’s and the city of Los Angeles’ history, culture, and legacy.”
“So, what my motion will do is initiate the process to have this designated and it will at least temporarily stop demolition while it goes through the process,” Park said.
Park said her office has been working around the clock “to get this motion read to initiate this process.”
“We have received hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of e-mails from every corner of the world begging for us to step up and do something about this,” she said. “And I can't imagine either a figure or a home that is more iconic or known around the world than Marilyn Monroe and her Brentwood residence.”
The current owners, who have not been publicly identified, bought the home in 2017 for $8.3 million, the Daily Mail reported.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety approved a “plan check” for the home on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
It’s unknown at this time why the current owners want to demolish the home.
