As the rain moves out of Southern California on Monday, the concerns about possible mudslides remain.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning is effective until 4 p.m. on Monday in areas such as Mount Baldy, Mount Wilson, and the Angeles Crest Highway.

On Sunday, Topanga Canyon Blvd. between Grand View Dr. and PCH was closed due to debris covering the road, according to Caltrans District 7. It was still closed on Monday morning.

Malibu Canyon Rd. was also closed between Piuma and Francisco Ranch roads on Sunday through 5 p.m. on Monday due to concern about rock and mudslides in the burn scars.

KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that some cars were stuck in some mud on a dirt road on Mulholland Dr. in Woodland Hills.

Josh West, an Earth Science professor at USC told Baid we still have mudslide danger in the hours right after some rain and going forward as well.

“Well, the good news is that it does decrease with time and you know the time to be most vigilant and that we're going to have to be most sort of sitting on the edge of our seats with concern,” he said.

Mudslides and debris were a big concern prior to the rainfall because of the impact it could have had on homes affected by the Palisades Fire. Mark Pestrella, the director of L.A. County Public Works, said during a press conference on Jan. 22  that crews were working to clear debris from the streets before the rain.

As of Monday morning, the Palisades Fire, which started on Jan. 7, was 94% contained and reached 23,448 acres, according to CalFire.
