One of the largest veteran-supportive housing locations is getting even bigger with a groundbreaking for two new buildings on Friday at the West L.A.'s Veteran's Affairs campus.
One of the buildings is specifically set aside for women and veterans with children, subsets of the community that often get overlooked and face additional barriers when it comes to finding safe housing.
Babs Ludikhuize is an Air Force veteran and one of two women living in her building on campus. She tells KNX News' Nataly Tavidian that she wants to share the news with all her female Veteran friends.
"It's amazing. At every place I've been, they don't have anything for women; they don't have anything at all." Ludikhuize said. "Then we get the women that come in with children, domestic violence, and stuff like that, and it really complicates things."
Once completed, the 80-acre North Campus will ultimately have 1,200 housing units and supportive services for Veterans and their families.
