A new foundation to protect and expand critical public health services across Los Angeles County was launched on Thursday.
Public Health's Doctor Barbara Ferrer says the Fund for Advancing Public Health LA will help protect and strengthen their services, especially in underserved communities, “including black, brown, LGBTQ plus residents and families with limited resources.”
“In Los Angeles County alone, we've lost nearly $50 million due to cuts, resulting in reduced services and reductions in workforce, including the closure of seven Department of Public Health clinics,” she said.
There are nine founding board members, including actor and restaurateur Danny Trejo.
“What I've learned is health is everywhere,” he said. “Homes, our schools, and our neighborhoods. I've seen how a lack of resources, exposure to drugs, and limited opportunities can shape a person's future and how the right support at the right time can change it. “
The Caine Foundation made the initial donation of $150,000 to the fund.
