A new commercial by the Los Angeles Tourism Commission remixes a classic song in hopes of reinvigorating tourism.

The commercial includes a remixed version of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” and features cinematic Los Angeles images. It was made after the group Visit California, which studies tourism to the state and Los Angeles, found a large number of international tourists believe up to 40% of the city was destroyed by the historic wildfires.

Councilmember Traci Park told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener that tourism tax generates tens of millions of dollars annually.

“The tourism economy in Los Angeles is a pillar of our local economy,” she said. “It is a significant source of local jobs and it employs about half a million people regionally, and it is a key source of taxes that we used to pay for police officers and firefighters and street sweeping, especially in the wake of the devastating wildfires. It is more important than ever that we let the world know Los Angeles is open for business and it remains a world destination.”

The commercial is focused on reaching viewers in the U.K., France, Mexico, South Korea, and Tokyo.

Bill Karz with L.A. Tourism said the commercial will run beginning March 3.
