NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store in Newport Beach's Fashion Island around 3 p.m. Monday, police said.
"The robbery involved four suspects," Heather Rangel with the Newport Beach Police Department told KNX. "They used a hammer to smash cases, at which point they then took some jewelry cases out of the box."
Rangel said the robbers, described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, face masks and gloves during the smash-and grab. Witnesses spotted them running from the store and into a car that sped away.
No one was hurt, Rangel said, adding that the hammers appear to be the only weapons that were involved in the theft.
KABC News is reporting that the theft happened at the JB Diamond & Fine Jewelry store. So far, Newport Police have not confirmed that information or shared any details about the value of what was stolen.
