Non-injury fire ignites on roof of school building in Granada Hills

A fire broke out Thursday on the roof of a high school building under construction in Granada Hills, prompting the evacuation of students but causing no injuries.

The fire was reported just after 10 a.m. Thursday at John F. Kennedy High School in the 11200 block of Gothic Avenue, south of Rinaldi Street.

Students were evacuated to an athletic field by school staff, while arriving firefighters put the fire out in 26 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Companies will remain on scene for overhaul and structural assessment in coordination with (the) L.A. Department of Building and Safety," according to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
