When you place an order online, the item you purchase arrives at your door encased in plastic or cardboard, oftentimes what feels like an excessive amount of it.
It's a lot of waste, and the nonprofit LA Works hopes the community will join its new climate initiative to reduce it.

"When we do online shopping, our carbon footprint on the world multiplies so greatly because not only is it the packaging that it comes in, but it's the gas in the truck to bring that over to you," Stephen Davalos with LA Works told KNX News' Emily Valdez.
"We can be very wasteful," Davalos said, and they've teamed up with the governor's office to encourage Californians to do just one small thing to help our planet.
"Whether it's choosing clean transportation, reducing food waste, conserving water, or planting trees, each action contributes to a healthier future for California," says an encouraging message on the nonprofit's website.
They offer 10 suggestions on how individuals can contribute to lowering carbon emissions, conserving resources, and building climate resilience, but you don't have to do all 10 to be part of the solution.
"Reducing waste can be as simple as making sure that you're bringing your reusable bags to the market all the way to just reducing any single-use plastic," Davalos said.
They want people to go onto their website, take the climate action pledge, and stick to it!
