KNX News has learned that the City of L.A. is now officially permitted to clean up that six-acre hoarder property in La Tuna Canyon.

Neighbors have been trying to get the property, filled with broken-down vehicles and hazardous materials, cleaned up for years.

KNX News' Emily Valdez reports the property is owned by an 80-year-old woman whose 50-year-old son lives among the junk on the land.

Valdez spoke with the owner's attorney, who said the woman received a letter from the city Thursday stating they can no longer touch anything on the property and that the city can clean it up however they see fit.

He said the city will likely put a lien on the property and bill the owner for the cleanup costs.

Next-door neighbor Elena Malone said, "I am very hopeful, but I have a little bit of trepidation in terms of long term still."

Malone is concerned because there's nothing preventing the son from being on the property right now.

Earlier on Thursday, police arrested a man just outside the property, but it was not the son.
