Hero update: OC Sheriff's Deputy pointing kids toward a bright future

Orange County, Calif. (KNX) - Have you ever wondered about the significance of the six points on an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy badge? To Deputy Pete Chavez, these points mean more than upholding the law; they symbolize a chance to serve his community.

Deputy Chavez, previously recognized as KNX's Hero of the Week, consistently demonstrates his commitment to the title. His community work hasn't gone unnoticed, and it's not just KNX that's taken note.

Each year, Deputy Chavez and his organization, Six Points for Kids (SPFK), show their support for the Special Olympics. This year, he was tasked with a special assignment.

He tells KNX reporter Heather Jordan, "I was honored to be given the opportunity to carry the torch into the opening ceremonies with a Special Olympics athlete."

On June 2, SPFK will host the HomeAid Orange County Diaper Drop-Off event at Angels Stadium, followed by a School Supply Drive in July.
