Officers investigating South L.A. crash struck by driver

Two officers sitting inside a police vehicle were struck by a fast-moving automobile while investigating a fatal collision in South Park Wednesday.

The crash was reported around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, when officers were responding to a pedestrian struck by a car on East Slauson Avenue, by Avalon Boulevard close to a middle school, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, an LAPD spokesperson told City News, and the two officers were transported to a hospital.

An update on the condition of the officers was unavailable.

Details regarding the collision was unclear at the time.

Metro bus line 108 was temporarily detouring from the street due to police activity in the area, the agency stated.
