L.A. SWAT shoots and kills man barricaded in hotel after standoff

LOS ANGELES (KNX) – The Los Angeles Police Department's SWAT team has shot and killed a man who was barricaded in a Downtown Los Angeles hotel, the department said.

The call came in just before 8:10 a.m. of a man who barricaded himself in a hotel room on West 5th Street, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Division told KNX News.

The man reportedly had suicidal thoughts, officials said.

The hotel, according to City News Service, is the Rosslyn hotel.

The man allegedly brandished a gun at the officers.

Just before 9:40 a.m., LAPD Central Area said that 5th Street between Los Angeles and Broadway Avenue was closed due to police activity.

A SWAT team is working to arrest the man.

The department said paramedics responded to the location following a "reported medical emergency."

No other injuries were reported.
