Older people in LA County still have to wait a few weeks to be vaccinated

Older people in LA County still will have to wait a few weeks to be vaccinated.

The announcement came just a few minutes ago from public health director Dr. Barbara Ferrer.

"We are not done with our healthcare workers. And we actually don't have enough vaccine right now to be able to get done more quickly with our healthcare workers. And we have hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers we need to get through in the next couple of weeks," she says Wednesday.

Dr. Ferrer says the county is asking the state for more vaccines to be able to open up the doors to older people as soon as possible. California recently announced that 65 age and older can get the vaccination today.

Another 281 people have died from coronavirus in Los Angeles County. That pushes the total to just under 13,000.

There are more than 14,000 new infections but COVID-19 hospitalizations are starting to stabilize.
