Attorney Alan Bell told KNX News reporter Pete Demetriou even though the Irvine Company sued a subcontractor for faulty construction, getting millions of dollars in the settlement, the suit alleges the company not only didn't use the funds for remediation, they kept tenants in the dark about potential problems with their units.
"You know, the evidence that we have shows that the Irvine company did know, at least at the higher levels. On the lower levels, many of them did not know, but they were instructed not to mention the word mold; they were told to tell the tenants that it's just mildew or some kind of inert, innocuous uh substance that was not harmful."
A spokesperson for the company has called any allegations that their policy is to cover up the nature of the contamination of the property false and insists the company was and is committed to the health and safety of residents in Newport Bluffs and other properties they've built over the years.
