During a rally in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, organizers announced a new plan of action against the ongoing ICE raids.
“On the 60th day of the Summer of Resistance, which will be August 12, we're calling for a community strike,” SEIU's Martin Manteca announced during the rally. “We're gonna exercise our power. We're gonna withhold our labor, and we're gonna withhold our purchasing that day.”
Also, during Friday’s rally, which took place at La Placita Olvera, members of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), SEIU, and the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) called for an end to what they say is the Trump administration's military style immigration operations.

“Stop violating the law and stop violating the Constitution of the United States because we are part of this country,” CHIRLA’s Agelica Salas said. “We too deserve to be protected, and most importantly, what we are asking is a return of all of those people, all our loved ones, back home. We want them back in L.A. We want them in their homes. That's where they belong and until those demands come, we will not stop organizing.”
The group also called on Congress for “accountability and oversight.”
