Many victims are still waiting to have the debris cleared off their property, including Erika Fiksdal, whose childhood home was destroyed.

Fiksdal told KNX News’ Jon Baird she got word that the property would be cleared of fire debris.

“Well, the chimneys withstanding, and that's what's recognizable for the most part,” she said. “We have a nice brick wall and a brick path, and that's still there, and we're hoping that we'll be able to retain that when the Army Corps comes … then they'll just take all of the debris, which also sadly means everything that was was the house and our belongings and everything that we filled it with for the 47 years that we've lived there.”

Still, she said she’s aware of the relief in the debris clearing.

“I know that it's time, and I'm well aware that there will be some relief in it that once it's cleared, we can focus on moving forward,” she said.

Fiksdal added that one problem she’s facing is not being able to afford the rebuilding of the house they had before.

“So for us it looks a little bit different, and we're exploring all of our options as far as ADU, prefab home, mobile home,” she said.

The Palisades Fire started on Jan. 7 and was deemed contained on Jan. 31, according to Cal Fire.
