The city of Palos Verdes Estates is clearing out Lunada Bay this week to make it more welcoming to outsiders after a lawsuit alleged a group of aggressive surfers claimed it as a “locals only” spot.
Out-of-town surfers filed the suit against the city in 2017, saying they were doing nothing to stop a group of locals called the “Lunada Bay boys” from harassing and bullying the other surfers.
As part of a settlement reached in September, the city agreed to remove bamboo that the Lunada Bay boys were accused of using to store kayaks and surfboards.
“So we cleared out a bunch of bamboo, kayaks, some surfboards, and some barbecues,” City Manager Kerry Kallman told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.
