More claims of racial discrimination against Black officers within the Pasadena Police Department.
Brad Gage, the attorney for officers Jarvis Shelby and Taisyn Crutchfield, told KNX News reporter Emily Valdez, "We've brought government claims on behalf of two of the officers...based on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation."
According to Shelby's claim, the long-time employee of the department was attacked by a white police commander who put Shelby into a headlock, "so violent that now he is on disability. He's not able to work," said Gage.

Crutchfield's new claim comes on the heels of a previous suit she filed alleging that she was subjected to racial discrimination and retaliated against related to a tense situation between a fellow officer and a suspect back in February.
Crutchfield says she was retaliated against again. According to Gage, "December 1st, we had a press conference here, and after that conference, she was working that night, she was sent to a man with a gun call. Nobody backed her up. That is harrowing. It is a life-threatening experience that can result in her death or the death of others in the community."
In a statement to KNX News, a Pasadena City spokesperson said there are at least two sides to every story, but legally, they cannot comment on the claims because they are personnel matters, and any complaints against Pasadena police officers are investigated thoroughly and fairly.
