Officials with the Pasadena Unified School District announced Thursday their plan to reopen schools in the wake of the deadly Eaton Fire.
The schools will reopen in phases, with campuses furthest from the fire zones opening first by the end of next week.
PUSD Superintendent Doctor Elizabeth Blanco hopes to have all students back in class by early February.
"Despite the challenges that we're facing, our commitment to families and students remains solid and unwavering. We are dedicated to coming together, rebuilding, and ensuring the well-being and success of this community, Dr. Blanco tells KNX News' Karen Adams.

The fire severely damaged five schools in the district, including the iconic Eliot Arts Magnet. It displaced most students and nearly half of the teachers and staff, with some losing everything.

Before students can return, the facilities must pass environmental testing.
