Pacific Coast Highway has reopened after it was closed due to this week’s storm.

On Wednesday, Caltrans District 7 closed the road between Chautauqua Blvd. and Carbon Beach Terrace due to risk of mud and debris flow from the rain. Only emergency vehicles and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers debris- hauling contractors were allowed to get to the area.

PCH has had on-and-off closures since the Palisades Fire. The road fully reopened on Feb. 3, but hours later a portion of the road closed due to an incoming storm.

Those traveling on PCH through the fire zone are required to have a pass. Other drivers now have to use the 101 to go all the way from Malibu to the Santa Monica area.

Neil Steffin, whose mother lost her home in the Palisades Fire, told KNX News’ Jon Baird he feels bad for the people who have to deal with traveling on PCH these days.

“There probably are better ways to do this, and I honestly just hope that the city continues to listen to the people that are experiencing this all the time, and continue to adjust and make refinements to make this as easy as possible on the families that are dealing with all this,” he said.
