Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in downtown L.A.

A pedestrian in his 50s was struck and killed Tuesday in downtown Los Angeles and police are searching for the vehicle that struck him and drove away.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to Fourth Street near Wall Street at around 3:30 a.m. where they learned the victim was walking in the street near Wall when the vehicle turned left on Fourth and fatally struck him, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and there was no vehicle description, Eisenman said.

The LAPD's Central Traffic will be handling the investigation of the fatal collision.
