Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in South L.A.

An investigation is underway Friday after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run collision as she crossed a street near the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 12:45 a.m. Friday to Florence and Towne avenues regarding a collision involving a pedestrian. According to witnesses at the scene, the driver was traveling east on Florence when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, an LAPD officer told City News Service.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead.

The driver drove away from the scene without stopping to render aid, police said. There was no vehicle description.

The  LAPD Central Traffic Division is handling the investigation of the collision, police said.
