People gathered on Memorial Day for a ceremony in Long Beach to pay tribute to those who serve in the armed forces.

The ceremony was at Rosie the Riverter Park in Long Beach. It featured the reading of some of the 7,000 names of service members who have given their lives. Afterwards, people read the bronze plaques on a memorial wall.

Margret Bishop and Lynn Pokaroba said it helps keep the memory of service members alive.

“Our father served in the Navy in World War II. My husband served in Vietnam, and her daughter served in the Iraqi war,” one of the sisters said.

“There was a lot of passion for our country and to defend it. And I think people are wanting that again and wanting to be united and love their country,” she said.

They said they appreciate the passion of the young people who are currently in the armed forces.
