The Perseid Meteor Shower is back this weekend and is expected to reach its peak over the weekend, specifically on Sunday night into Monday, dazzling stargazers with a show of 60 or so shooting stars an hour.

KNX News' Karen Adams spoke with Dr. Ed Krupp at the Griffith Observatory about how those living in the "glowing landscape" of Los Angeles can get a good look.

"We really do need a good dark sky, and this year, the moon is going to interfere a little bit with the shower as well," Dr. Krupp said. "It puts a lot of light in the sky, and it will be up for much of the night."

So, according to Krupp, your best bet is to get roughly an hour outside of any major urban area.

"There are still pockets of dark sky around, but mostly, you've got to just get straight out of L.A. and as far away from it as you can. An hour, hour and a half almost in any direction except out into the Pacific will do it. Of course, you can go out into the ocean too on a boat, but that's a lot harder," Krupp said.

The best time to catch the show is from 10:30 at night until dawn.

Thanks to NASA, you can find meteor shower party by searching the Night Sky Network for clubs near you, or by searching for local events.
