The anti-deportation rally in downtown Los Angeles resulted in a large number of protestors being detained and identified on Monday.
LAPD Commander Lillian Carranza told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou protestors became agitated around 4:30 p.m. and after officers declared an unlawful assembly, the crowd dispersed, and around 100 people went into a tunnel on Cesar Chavez Ave.
“They refused to disperse. They were blocking the roadway,” Carranza said. “They were throwing bottles at the officers, At one point they were also throwing rocks and the decision was made to cite them for [impeding] the roadway and release them.”
Carranza said she made the call to ID the protestors on body cams and give them a warning to clear the area or face immediate arrest.

“One of the suspects was found to have a firearm on them so that individual was arrested,” she said. “We also had an individual shooting fireworks at our air unit so that investigation is ongoing. I am confident that we'll be able to identify and arrest this individual.”
No injuries were reported.
The protest began Monday morning outside City Hall.
