A suspect in an armed robbery in the Mid-City area was fatally shot by a security guard Friday, and the guard was wounded.
The shooting occurred about 10:15 a.m. at a strip mall in the 5900 block of Venice Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
According to police, two suspects went into a check-cashing business at the strip mall and confronted a security guard and the business owner. A struggle over money ensued, and a suspect -- described only as a 25-year-old man -- shot the 40-year-old security guard, who returned fire, striking the suspect.
