Call it being at the right place at the right time.
Photographers Patrick Coyne and Mark Girardeau captured the glowing blue waves of Newport Beach on Tuesday evening and posted the video on Instagram.

“Last night we were treated to those amazing glowing blue waves that lit up consistently with every wave break,” Coyne wrote in the caption.
Girardeau told the Orange County Register he received a tip earlier in the day that the waves were red during the day, an indication that they could turn blue at night.
The bright blue waves are created by a bioluminescence reaction. The reaction is from the organism that produces coastal bioluminescence is called Lingulodinium polyedra.
It’s not the duo’s first time capturing it as they went viral for photographing the waves in Newport Beach in April 2020.
