MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — While the Manhattan Beach Pier always impresses, twice a year it truly shines, according to locals. They call it "Pierhenge" and it's happening this weekend.

The phenomenon occurs when the setting sun aligns perfectly with the pillars of the iconic pier - making for an impressive photo opportunity.

Your best chance to catch Pierhenge is on Sunday, according to Easy Reader News. Sunset that night should be around 4:52 p.m.

Evelyn Schmitt, who offered the above photo to KNX for this article, told Easy Reader that she won't leave a thing to chance this year - and plans to be at the pier from Sunday through Tuesday to get the perfect shot.

Can't make it to the pier this weekend? It's a good thing L.A. County operates 25 beaches along 76 miles of shoreline. Kudos to Scott Burt for always sharing the best views with us!
